ICMS Graduate School

Welcome to the Graduate School website for the Blizard Institute of Cell and Molecular Science. The Blizard Institute of Cell and Molecular Science is the largest of the six institutes that make up Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. It is sited in the heart of London 's east end at Whitechapel and housed in a Royal Institute of British Architects award winning building. At a total cost of £45m the glass pavilion-dominated construction provides space for 400 clinicians, scientist and students.

Students studying at the Blizard Institute of Cell and Molecular Science will find a multi-disciplinary workplace where research falls under the main themes of Cell Biology and Tissue Engineering, Infection and Immunity, Neurosciences and Genomic Medicine. The open plan style of the laboratory and common areas for seminars and tutorials promotes interaction between all academics. The pioneering Centre of the Cell, a bioscience education centre with aims to inspire curiosity and learning in science, fosters successful links with local schools and the wider community of the London's east end.

The Blizard Institute of Cell and Molecular Science is linked directly with Barts and The London NHS Trust and other local NHS Trusts either through staff who have joint affiliation or through research initiatives that aim to benefit the health needs of east London . The joint Research and Development administration unit ensure this amalgam of academia and healthcare activity functions to full potential and to the benefit of all concerned. This will be bolstered by the exciting £1bn re-development of The Royal London Hospital at Whitechapel and Bart's Hospital in the City of London .

Another asset to academic life will be the new Whitechapel Innovation Centre, currently under construction, which will interface with the Institute of Cell and Molecular Science. It will act as a technology incubator and will forge dynamic links between academia, the health service and industry.

Studying for postgraduate qualifications at the the Institute of Cell and Molecular Science will provide students with access to world leaders in clinical and scientific fields of research in a state-of-the-art building with core facilities, adjacent to the UK's largest NHS Trust re-development programme and all located in one of London's most culturally diverse and vibrant boroughs.

A challenging and rewarding experience for all.

Available PhD studentships can be found advertised at all usual listings (e.g. www.findaphd.com ).
