Sheila Hillier’s main research interest is in the social and political factors enabling good health. She has always considered this question in an international context. Her interest in health care organization has led to an involvement with the Peoples Republic of China which has lasted for over 30 years. The issue of migrant health in times of economic expansion or depression has formed the basis for her work on ethnic minority health in the UK. She has always adopted an interdisciplinary approach, working with clinicians, especially in psychiatry, epidemiologists, development economists and political scientists and is committed to the use of qualitative research methods as an equal research tool to quantitative work in the field of health care. Lately she has been involved in research into the social factors involved in the development of HIV/AIDS in China.
