In 2000 I moved to Barts & The London and worked as Senior Lecturer from 2000-2005. From June 2005 until July 2006 I worked as medical director at GlaxoSmithKline. After this one year in industry I decided to return to medicine and was appointed to Barts & The London where I took up my post from July 2006.
Research Activity
I am a general hematologist and my main interest is autoimmune haematology, particularly ITP and other immune cytopenias. I have established a UK-wide patients registry for (1) ITP, (2) Familial thrombocytopenia and (3) Evans' syndrome. The registries are being used to collect clinical data from patients with these disorders. We have DNA samples from most patients on the registries (with full informed consent) and this is being used to look for genetic markers for severity, duration of disease, responses to treatment etc, in ITP.
