MSc and Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Microbiology (one-yr full-time, two-yr part-time): The MSc in Clinical Microbiology has run for over 20 years and is suitable for SpRs and scientists in Medical Microbiology in universities, NHS and HPA departments, and for others wishing to obtain a greater understanding of clinical microbiology. Based at the Whitechapel Campus the course has, on average, 30 full-time equivalent students on it at any time, from the UK and overseas. The MSc and Diploma are broad-based, with extensive coverage of the following topics on a modular basis, conducted through lectures, seminars and practical work -:bacteriology and bacterial pathogenicity; virology; mycology; parasitology; bacterial structure, function and analysis; microbial disease - diagnosis, treatment and prevention; antimicrobials and chemotherapy; epidemiology and public health; and hospital infection.
BSc module: The Centre also offers a popular module in Medical Microbiology for Biological Sciences students. Lectures and practicals introduce students to important human pathogens and the diseases they cause.
Short course (in October 2005): The Clinical TB & HIV Group will be offering a one-week course in International Principles of TB Control, in collaboration with the WHO.
