Kate followed her degree in Biochemistry and MSc in Medical Informatics as information officer for an NHS health authority, before supporting IT systems in the private sector. Having retrained in Information Science at Master’s level, she was based at the Royal College of Surgeons of England setting up and maintaining a specialist online library for surgery and anaesthesia, part of NHS Evidence. She then worked on the NICE clinical guidelines programme for acute care as a systematic reviewer. Since joining the Centre for Primary Care and Public Health in March 2009, she has been working on an NIHR-funded project to review the literature on self-management programmes for chronic pain. She is also contributing to the subsequent development of a new self-management course for chronic pain sufferers (COPERS) and helping to organise its evaluation in a pilot trial.
