Primary Care Route: primary care
This route is aimed at primary care and practice managers and policy makers, GPs and nurses across all primary care disciplines.
Aims
The aim of the programme is to provide participants with a multi-disciplinary perspective to facilitate their skills in the planning, organisation and delivery of primary care. In the long term this will strengthen the existing knowledge base through developing the research and educational culture for clinicians, managers, educationalists and administrators.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and Understanding
- Knowledge and understanding of the theoretical basis for primary care organisation, management and service delivery, building on the disciplines that contribute to the development of evidence-based primary care.
- Demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate changes in health care delivery within the context of the philosophy & politics of primary health care.
Values and Attitudes
- Act as an independent and self critical learner, guiding the learning of others and managing own requirements for continuing professional development.
Cognitive/intellectual
- Critically analyse and apply ethical and philosophical principles, research methodology, healthcare policy and research evidence in the context of clinical practice, management theory, information technology, social science theory, and educational theory in continuing professional development in healthcare, as applicable, in a workplace setting.
Subject Specific
- Knowledge of the skills required when working with colleagues in the areas of ethical and evidence-based practice, management of change, and continuing professional development, as applicable, in primary health care.
Transferable
- Work effectively with a group as leader or member, clarifying tasks and make appropriate use of the capacities of group members through negotiation while handling conflict with confidence.
- Engage confidently in academic and professional communication with others, reporting on action clearly, autonomously and competently.
