Project: Evaluating the nature of the association between connective tissue disorders and functional gastrointestinal disorders

Connective tissue is ubiquitous throughout the body, and patients with hereditary connective tissue disorders have GI symptoms. Asma is interested in the role of abnormal connective tissue in contributing to functional GI disorders. She is planning on carrying out studies both on an epidemiological, cellular and genetic level to investigate the connective tissue profile in patients with gastrointestinal abnormalities, in the hope that this may help increase our understanding of the aetiology of these common disorders.
