Project: Oesophageal hypomotility: evaluation of stimulation tests designed to predict response to pharmacological prokinetic therapy and likelihood of dysphagia after anti reflux surgery

Prokinetics have been used for oesophageal hypomotility patients with disappointing results as some patients do not respond to prokinetics. Moreover, a portion of patients with oesophageal hypomotility plus GORD develop dysphagia post operation. To date, there is no test that can predict the effect of prokinetics or antireflux operation on patients with oesophageal hypomotility. The purpose of this project is to establish a set of provocative tests that can overcome these problems by revealing the preserved oesophageal functionality.
