Nigel Meadows

Nigel Meadows is a paediatric gastroenterologist and lead clinician at the Royal London Hospital. Nationally, he is a current council member and Chair of the Clinial Standards Committee of the British Society of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. He is also a member of the British Artificial Nutrition Survey.

He first became interested in nutrition and motility disorders after his MD on “Zinc metabolism during pregnancy”, and these now form a large part of his clinical practice. He currently leads a multidisciplinary clinic consisting of a dietician, psychologist, and a speech and language therapist. This clinic undertakes the assessement of children with feeding, swallowing, and motility disorders. The unit has a national reputation and indeed has been used as a model for other centers, and all members have been invited speakers at national meetings. He also has a major interest in parenteral nutrition, and was part of the early development of home parenteral nutrition in paediatrics. He lectures widely on intestinal failure, and in 2006 was an invited speaker to the Royal Danish Paediatric Society and at the Spring Meeting of the BSG.

  • The influence of gastrooesophageal reflux and the later development of feeding disorders
  • Oral and cutaneous hypersensitivy in children with gastrooesophageal reflux
  • The interpretation and standardisation of manometry investigation in children
