Peter Lunniss

Peter Lunniss was appointed Senior Lecturer in the Academic Department of Surgery, Medical College of St Bartholomew’s and The London, and Honorary Consultant Colorectal Surgeon to St Bartholomew’s, The Royal London and Homerton Hospitals in 1997. Between 1990 and 1993, he was Lecturer in the Academic Surgical Department, St Bartholomew’s Hospital, during which time he was awarded his MS degree following research into anal fistula at St Mark’s Hospital. His later surgical training was at The London Hospital, St Mark’s Hospital, and in the Academic Colorectal Surgical Department of Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, where he was chief resident.

He currently works alongside Dr Mark Scott in the GI Physiology Unit as leads in GI physiological research, supervising several research fellows towards higher academic degrees. He is the author of over 80 peer reviewed journal publications and 30 book chapters. He is a senior internal examiner for the Medical College.

  • Benign proctological conditions (anal fissure, fistula, haemorrhoids, perineal sepsis)
  • Premalignant anal conditions
  • Pathophysiology and treatment of functional disorders of hindgut function (constipation, rectal evacuatory disorders, incontinence)
