I studied at University College London where I obtained a BSc. in Pharmacology and a medical degree, graduating in 2003. Following this I continued my basic medical training on the Barts and The London medical SHO rotation, during which time I gained membership of the Royal College of Physicians. I entered gastroenterology and general internal medicine specialist training in London in 2007. I took up my post at the Wingate Institute for Neurogastroenterology in June 2010.

Project: Oesophageal mucosal integrity changes in gastro-oesophageal reflux disease

The majority of patients with GORD have no macroscopic evidence of mucosal injury. Many of these patients are still highly symptomatic to episodes of reflux. The project investigates possible changes in oesophageal mucosal integrity in response to reflux and psychological stressors. We aim to establish mechanisms of peripheral hypersensitivity in symptomatic patients, particularly those refractory to current medical therapy.
