Aria cell sorter upgrade
The Flow Cytometry Core Facility at the Blizard is pleased to announce that the Aria I cell sorter will be upgraded to an Aria IIIu in February 2014. The Users charges have over the last 18 months being used to implement this upgrade giving the Blizard Institute a new cell sorter for a quarter of the price of a new instrument. The upgrade includes replacing most of the moving parts in the old instrument reducing the number of breakdowns per year; replacing the fluidics system making the stream more stable and the instrument easier to setup. The purchase of a Yellow-Green 561nm laser adds an extra 4 colour's that can be analyzed offering increased PE tandem dye level of sensitivity making it easier to detect phosphoproteins, Fruit Fluorescent Proteins and PE labelled tetramers. The new instrument currently will analyse FITC, PerCP or PerCP-Cy5.5 (Blue); PE, PE-Texas Red, PE-Cy5 or PE-Cy5.5, PE-Cy7 (Yellow-Green); APC, Alexa700, APC-Cy7 (red); BV421, BV511, BV605, BV650, BV711, BV780 (Violet).

The Flow Cytometry Core Facility has purchased a new flow cytometric analyser fitted with a carousel allowing TC plate and FACS tube automated analysis. The instrument has 7 log decade fluorescence parameters that do not require PMT voltage adjustments. The Novocyte intrument also offers absolute counts without the need for count beads and can analyse 35,000 events/sec. The Novocyte is fitted with blue(5 colours), violet (six colours) and red lasers (2 colours) and is fitted with 7 filters, 445/45 nm, 530/30 nm, 585/40 nm, 615/24 nm, 675/30 nm and 780/60 nm, see pdf
